Who says we can’t be spontaneous?
My mom and sister we spending the day in San Francisco to celebrate their birthdays. The Smith bunch decided to crash the party temporarily. Josh and I concocted the scheme an hour before we would need to leave. Nobody was showered, no snacks packed, no diaper bag ready, kids weren’t dressed – we had just finished breakfast. No problem. This is one of those things Josh and I can do really well. We go into machine mode, divide, conquer and get out the door.
We decided to splurge a little bit and take the ferry into San Francisco. Its not a cheap way of transport but we thought the kids would enjoy it and the new promised a beautiful day. Unfortunately for us, there was an event in the city and the TWO ferries they had scheduled to depart at 10:00am filled up before we boarded so after a little discussion we (along with GiGi) boarded a bus they had provided. Josh and I were concerned how the kids would fair on the trip but Claire was elated to take a bus and Conor dozed most of the time.

Pop Pop trailing Claire through the Ferry Building.

We joined the crush of people hanging at the Ferry building for farmer’s market and found a nice Vietnamese place to grab lunch. Mainly we just walked around the ferry buidling and hung out, met up with the family and then boarded the Ferry for home. The ferry ride home was as relaxed as I can remember being in a long time. There was hardly a soul on board and Claire provided endless entertainment. She was tickled with the seats and fold up tray tables and spent her time playing with the tables in our row and “riding” GiGi’s leg.
Josh hurt his wrist at work a couple of months ago and recently its been acting up again so he’s had to take a step back from some of the sidework he’s going until the doc figures out what is going on. SO…we had a rare day to spend together as a family. We started with a family walk around the neighborhood and then went to SF to rendez vous with my sis and brother in law. Auntie B captured the earlier part of the day in her blog post here. Brunchish at the Farmer’s market, little nap at Auntie B’s then we were off to Ocean Beach for some family time in the surf and sand – more on the sand side than surf side.

Claire got some sand toys from Meme and Boompa for Easter. This girl LOVES her sand.
Josh and Claire were sculpting a sand castle – or trying to.

At some point Claire evidently got bored playing with the sand toys and decided to army crawl across the beach, completely unphased by the wind, cold and flying sand.

Mom and Claire enjoying the waves and trying to teach her the difference between beach and ocean, beach she got, ocean was still beach to her no matter how hard we tried.
