After the Holidays

It wasn’t two days after Christmas when cast off trees made their appearance on porches, lawns and in the back of pick ups. Lights started to come down and decorations put away. I love the Christmas season and it makes depresses me a little to pack it away so soon. I delayed the inevitable until this past weekend – especially after hearing Claire’s reaction when our HOA took down the community decor – she was devastated. A week and a half later she is still asking where the teddy bears and frosty went. We’ve told her they went to Christmasland and will be back next December but she finds this explanation only partially satisfying. Each day brings reminders, yes santa ate all the cookies but he’s not here now, he’ll return in a few months. All the Christmas lights had to go back in their boxes. Fortunately for us, she noticed our tree was gone two days later and was too distracted with the craft she was doing to mind much.

So after six weeks of Christmas festivities, the decorations are put away, the social calendar is slowing down and our family is striving to find our post holiday norm.

After a couple resolution type brainstorming sessions, I still struggle to extricate mom/wife goals from personal goals. Josh is very encouraging of personal goals. I think I have a compromise mom goals and personal goals.
Mom Goals:
1. potty train Claire
2. Get Conor consistently sleeping through the night
3. Move Conor into Claire’s room and out of our closet.
4. Take more initiative in our family’s nutrition.

Personal Goals:
1. Plump up my savings account
2. Visit a new place each month
3. Read more history – American history
4. Regular devotion time
5. Get this durn extra weight off.
6. Share more recipes.

Happy 2011! Here we go. More adventures to come, of that I am sure.
